Five primary languages of love

Quality Time is often a mutual need for couples to express and demonstrate love (Chapman, 2015). There are a couple of Li and Lu. Li frequently complains that Lu doesn't spend enough time with him when he needs her presence. At social events, he feels like he's single, which is embarrassing, and during low points in his life or work, he craves her companionship but is often disappointed. Lu struggles to understand or accept this, as she doesn't see it as a necessary expression of love.

Gifts serve as tangible symbols of one's affection. Lu adores little trinkets, even something as simple as a handmade grass ring from Li can make her day. Li, though not naturally inclined to gift-giving, knows this is how Lu feels loved, so he makes an effort.

Acts of Service are embedded in the daily chores and support in life and work, with mutual reciprocity being the standard. Lu expresses her love through acts like cooking, doing laundry, and handling most household tasks, which Li enjoys and appreciates.

Physical Touch, whether it's hugging, kissing, or simply holding hands while shopping, is a universal language of love. Li is very attentive and loves expressing his affection this way, but Lu isn't fond of it and even resists it somewhat, feeling that public displays of affection are unnecessary outside of romantic contexts.

Words of Affirmation involve continuously acknowledging, accepting, encouraging, and motivating the other (Chapman, 2015). Li particularly cherishes this, especially when Lu is criticized by societal norms regarding her physique or education. Li always shares his unique perspective, making Lu feel supported at home. When Lu fears something, like learning to swim, Li's encouragement through actions, like taking her to pools or the beach, eventually helps her enjoy the aquatic world.

In summary, the languages of love are not limited to these five, and each person's preference can differ. However, love needs to be expressed; only through expression can there be a continuous exchange, enriching the stage of love.
